Conversation to Contemporary

With time and while working on heritage sites, I developed an inclination towards working with new materials with the use of lights and shadows in creating new buildings which drove me to join Shimul J Kadri Architects in Mumbai who were at forefront of contemporary styles. I and my team of architects worked on various projects including designing an office building, refurbishing a hotel and interiors for a jewelry store. All projects were rooted in the earth with the use of natural resources and details inspired by Indian traditions and spiritual metaphors. One of my most exciting and challenging projects was an 800 square meter office architecture and interior project for an advertisement film making company in Bangalore. We were given free rein on most aspects with an adequate budget with a hint of making the building most environment friendly. I chose to innovate by optimizing space within a tight floor surface index. We also overturned the typology for an office building requiring no electricity for light and air ventilation during day hours. It was a very new design but the clients heavily appreciated our proposal and kept us involved till the final stages. Our project got featured in magazines and was awarded for new innovations in an office building.
